How Rocket.Chat is transforming public safety communications in the US

Bridge 4 Public Safety, a Houston-based public safety initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, needed a highly secure, self-managed messaging platform to replace consumer apps and meet strict data-compliance and interoperability requirements across agencies. They chose Rocket.Chat’s open-source, self-hosted messaging platform (deployed in AWS GovCloud) to provide secure cross-agency collaboration, device compatibility, and team-based management.

Rocket.Chat implemented a customizable solution with Teams, a centralized nationwide directory, private/public channels, and on-premise/AWS GovCloud deployment, enabling rapid, accountable communication. The Bridge4PS app now supports thousands of users from 400+ agencies, enabled seamless mutual aid across eight states during the 2020 hurricane season, and sped up emergency response for events like Hurricane Laura, a Houston plant explosion, pandemic response, the LA Marathon, and Super Bowl LI.
