Barcelona City Council - Customer Case Study

Barcelona City Council's Institut Municipal d'Informàtica needed a secure, scalable team chat solution to support internal collaboration across departments. They trialed Slack but found it limited by an English-only interface and high costs to scale, and after evaluating alternatives like HipChat and Zulip they turned to Rocket.Chat for a localisable, open-source chat platform.

Rocket.Chat was deployed on a VPS (initially with eight users) for instant messaging, file and link sharing, and the implementation scaled to 90 Barcelona City Council users who use Rocket.Chat daily. The Institut Municipal d'Informàtica is now working with Rocket.Chat on an open community server to explore wider deployment across all departments, delivering a cost-effective, localisable, and scalable communication solution.
