National Government Services Agency Preparing public services for increased demand

National Government Services Agency needed to prepare citizen benefit services for rising demand while reducing the cost of maintaining its mainframe systems. During the COVID-19 pandemic, application traffic tripled and then rose to four times normal peak levels, overwhelming available computing capacity; the agency worked with Rocket Software and its Model 204 platform to address the challenge.

Rocket Software implemented capacity and performance improvements using Model 204, IBM mainframe specialty engines, and targeted application code changes to better use IBM zIIP resources. In just over a week, Rocket Software stabilized performance and expanded headroom, helping the agency support growth from 60 million to 250 million API calls per day.
