Integrating Mainframe Scanning with Penetration Testing

Major Global Bank needed a more streamlined, unified security approach and wanted to move mainframe vulnerability assessments from KRI to its internal penetration testing team. However, the team lacked mainframe-specific scanning experience and needed the right training and tools to take on the responsibility effectively.

Working with Rocket Software and its z/Assure® VAP solution, the bank created a six-month hands-on training program led by internal systems programmers. Rocket Software supported the knowledge transfer and helped the team set up automatic vulnerability scanning schedules. As a result, the bank’s penetration testers were able to run automated mainframe vulnerability checks, analyze reports, and help mitigate issues, improving security and freeing mainframe operations teams to focus on higher-priority work.
