Cornell University Streamlines Procurement and Saves Millions of Dollars

Cornell University needed to modernize its legacy procurement software so it could control a $500 million annual purchasing budget, classify spending more accurately, and reduce costs without hurting research or teaching quality. The old system was too rigid and relied on a vendor “black box,” making it hard for Cornell to create custom filters and analyze spending quickly.

Rocket Software, through its Rocket® U2 MultiValue platform and partner Spend Viz, implemented a web-based procurement analytics solution that gave Cornell better visibility into spend, customizable classification rules, and real-time reporting without costly data warehousing. The result was an immediate $145,000 savings in the first year and more than $31 million in annual savings by 2015, while also enabling 500 users across campus to make more informed procurement decisions.
