Reducing pesticide use with AI-driven weed control

The Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (ILVO) faced the challenge of reducing the excessive use of pesticides, a problem at odds with the necessary shift towards more sustainable agriculture, in order to decrease the environmental impact of farming. To address this, they partnered with Robovision.

Robovision implemented an AI-driven weed detection system that powers drones with computer vision. The autonomous drone scans fields to detect weeds, the AI model instantaneously analyzes the data to generate a precise task map, and a spraying machine then applies pesticides only where needed. This solution from Robovision allowed ILVO to reduce pesticide use by up to 80%, achieving a more sustainable and efficient agricultural process.
