A Robotmaster Case Study
Proco, a Quebec-based steel structure manufacturer, faced significant challenges in manually applying protective zinc coatings to its massive bridge girders. This labor-intensive and hazardous process was a production bottleneck and made it difficult to attract skilled workers. To address this, Proco partnered with automation specialist Robexco to implement a robotic system programmed with Robotmaster software.
The solution involved a robotic metallization cell equipped with two KUKA robots, programmed offline using Robotmaster. This allowed Proco to import CAD models and generate precise spray paths for each unique girder. The implementation resulted in a process that was three to four times more productive than manual methods. Robotmaster's programming ensured consistent spray patterns, which drastically reduced zinc waste and consumption while improving both coating quality and worker safety.
