Johnson Wellfield Quarries, a 150-year-old stone quarry, faced the challenge of machining artistically sculpted sandstone for a major city redevelopment project. Their traditional methods were insufficient for the complex shapes required, prompting a search for a radical new approach. They partnered with vendor Robotmaster and utilized its CAD/CAM software to drive a bespoke robotic machining solution.

The solution implemented by Robotmaster involved its software being used to program Stäubli 6-axis robots. The Robotmaster software translated complex CAD data into optimized tool paths, enabling the robots to precisely sculpt organic shapes and intricate surface textures into the stone. This resulted in the successful completion of the high-profile project, the removal of hazardous manual labor conditions for employees, and the opening of new market possibilities for the quarry through enhanced and innovative artistic capabilities.
