A Robotmaster Case Study
Carnegie Mellon University's Digital Fabrication Lab (dFAB) faced a challenge in programming their 7-axis ABB robot to mill complex 3D designs from soft materials. Manual programming was either too time-consuming or impossible, which was limiting the creative potential of their advanced robotic manufacturing system. They sought a solution that could integrate with their existing CAD/CAM workflow.
The lab implemented Robotmaster, a robot programming software integrated into their Mastercam environment. After setup and two days of training, staff and students were able to quickly generate accurate milling programs offline from CAD files. The solution was critical to their workflow, allowing them to achieve a high level of part complexity that would otherwise be extremely difficult. Robotmaster enabled CMU to fully exploit their robot cell on a wide variety of projects and become an inspirational, innovative user of the technology.
