A Roboflow Case Study
The Active Robotics Sensing Lab at North Carolina State University (NC State) sought to create an engaging, hands-on machine learning activity to teach high school students about the entire computer vision pipeline, from data collection to model prediction, during a summer engineering camp. The challenge was to guide students through building a functional activity recognition model in a limited timeframe.
Using Roboflow, the students uploaded accelerometer data converted into spectrogram images to create a dataset. They then used Roboflow to train their own image classification models to distinguish between standing, walking, and running. Every student group successfully trained high-performing models, immediately receiving accurate predictions on new data and gaining firsthand experience with the computer vision workflow.
