Transport for London Trials RoadMetrics’ AI Based Road Condition Assessments

Transport for London (TfL) was exploring AI-based road survey providers to assist in developing its asset strategy and investment plans. To evaluate this technology, TfL engaged RoadMetrics to trial its AI-based road condition assessment service on selected sections of its Key Route Network.

For the trial, RoadMetrics provided a hardware kit and collaborated with TfL to survey 162 km of road. The RoadMetrics system successfully provided detailed, five-level road condition classifications and identified potholes. The data was exportable for integration into TfL's asset management system, and the customer provided positive feedback on the system's accuracy and data consistency.
