Case Study: Beacon Hill Academy achieves remote learning success with RM Education and Microsoft Teams

A RM Education Case Study

Preview of the Beacon Hill Academy Case Study

The lessons learnt from transitioning to Remote Learning with Microsoft Teams – at great pace – with Beacon Hill Academy in the West Midlands

Beacon Hill Academy, a secondary school in the West Midlands and part of Dudley Academies Trust, faced a sudden shift to remote learning when schools closed in March 2020. Although the academy had Microsoft 365 in place and some basic cloud use, most staff and learners had little or no experience with Microsoft Teams, many pupils did not know their login details, and remote teaching, submission, and support processes were limited. RM Education supported the school’s existing Microsoft cloud environment and was brought in to help it adapt quickly to distance learning.

RM Education worked with Beacon Hill Academy to reset learner passwords to memorable ones, expand Microsoft Teams for lessons, and provide ongoing support to staff, learners, and parents. The academy was able to move from no meaningful use of Teams to delivering all remote lessons through the platform, with engagement improving week by week and support requests falling as users became more familiar with the system. RM Education also helped the school address access issues through mobile-friendly resources, laptop loans, dongles, and parent engagement, enabling better continuity of learning and quality feedback during lockdown.
