Preparing and implementing Remote Learning in a standalone Academy Trust – Denefield School – near Reading, Berkshire

Denefield School, a secondary school and standalone Academy Trust near Reading, Berkshire, needed to modernise its ageing and partly customised network as it grew, moved away from a smaller local provider, and prepared for remote learning. Working with RM Education, the school also needed to replace older local-authority-based services and create a more reliable digital foundation for staff and pupils.

RM Education implemented a fully managed service that included broadband and WiFi, RM Unify identity management, and a transition to Office 365, SharePoint and Microsoft Teams, supported by new servers, SAN, network switches and VLANs. As lockdown began, Denefield School was able to create and sync class groups in just 48 hours, get teachers and pupils working in Teams from day one, and continue teaching remotely with better connectivity, cloud file sharing and improved support; the school also noted that many of the right investments had already been made in the previous years, helping it cope with the sudden shift.
