Case Study: British Sugar cuts injuries by 60% and RIDDOR accidents by 75% with Rivo

A Rivo Case Study

Preview of the British Sugar Case Study

Transforming Safety with Rivo

British Sugar, which produces over 1 million tonnes of sugar (about half the UK’s supply) and 500,000 tonnes of animal feed, operates four processing sites and two distribution centres with around 1,000 employees and 1,100 contractors. After a fatality in 2003 a review revealed gaps between training and practice and an inefficient, manual accident-recording process that consumed safety-team time and hampered timely board reporting and corrective action.

British Sugar implemented Rivo’s cloud incident‑reporting system to centralise and automate data collection, send instant alerts for serious incidents, launch investigations, establish root causes and track corrective actions with automated reminders. The solution freed the H&S team to focus on prevention and drove a 60% reduction in injuries and a 75% fall in RIDDOR accidents; the system has since been rolled out to sister company Silver Spoon.
