Xirrus Enables Pervasive Wi-Fi on Brigham Young University-Idaho Campus for Constant Connectivity

Brigham Young University‑Idaho, a private four‑year university in Rexburg with about 15,000 students across 40 major buildings, needed pervasive, easy‑to‑access Wi‑Fi after limited hotspots left students and faculty unsure where they could connect. Administrators required coverage that supported 3–4 devices per resident student and enough bandwidth for lecture halls of up to 150 students to download and use materials simultaneously.

BYU‑Idaho selected Xirrus and deployed nearly 700 Xirrus Arrays (with plans to exceed 800), delivering 100% indoor Wi‑Fi coverage and capacity for roughly 6,500 simultaneous devices with room to grow. The deployment cut cable runs and switch ports—saving tens of thousands of dollars—virtually eliminated dropped connections, and enabled streaming, electronic document downloads and other dynamic teaching tools across campus.
