SteelHead EX Technology Supports Growth-Through-Acquisition Strategy

DJO Global, a leading maker of orthopedic devices with about 5,000 employees across 24 sites, needed an IT infrastructure that could support rapid growth through acquisition and the integration of one to two companies a year. Large design files and critical applications delivered across a slow WAN were taking hours to transfer, and the team faced rising bandwidth and administrative demands as they consolidated systems and brought new sites online.

DJO deployed Riverbed SteelHead appliances and later upgraded to SteelHead EX with the Virtual Services Platform and Granite, enabling virtualized branch services and storage consolidation. The solution cut WAN bandwidth use 60–90% (equivalent to adding dozens of T1s), sped file transfers, reduced an expected 80 Mbps Oracle link to 10 Mbps, supported ERP and Exchange consolidation, minimized remote hardware and admin effort, and accelerated integration of acquired sites.
