A Riverbed Case Study
Energia Communications, a provider of information and communication services for the Chugoku region of Japan (supporting services like MEGA EGG and enterprise cloud offerings), operates virtualized systems from a Hiroshima data center with disaster-recovery replication to Okayama. Facing forecasted increases in replication data, the company needed to reduce replication time to lower risk, and gain accurate visibility into bandwidth usage — all without increasing service-line capacity.
Energia deployed Riverbed SteelHead CX to optimize WAN replication, achieving roughly a 99% reduction in bandwidth utilization, cutting initial transfer time from about 11 hours to 2–3 hours (≈80% reduction) and subsequent daily differentials from ~25 minutes to ~13 minutes (≈50% reduction). The solution also provided the visibility and scalability Energia required to handle future growth and improve overall service quality.
