Siemens Indonesia Improves Manufacturing Productivity With Riverbed Steelhead And Granite Solutions

PT Siemens Indonesia, a long‑established engineering firm with over 1,800 employees, faced performance and cost challenges at its Cilegon manufacturing plant where a 2 Mbps WAN link to a datacenter 100 km away slowed access to centralized applications. The site supported ~200 users and 700 GB of data on multiple local servers; a prior attempt to centralize file services caused transfer lag and hurt productivity, while maintaining distributed servers remained costly and hard to manage.

Siemens deployed Riverbed SteelHead EX, SteelFusion and the Virtual Services Platform to centralize storage and streaming while preserving local file performance. The rollout cut five physical servers to a single converged appliance, freed downstream bandwidth, improved WAN and application response, reduced IT support and infrastructure costs, enabled faster backup/recovery and local access during outages, and strengthened business continuity.
