Case Study: DC Leisure avoids costly leased-line upgrade and achieves up to 92% data reduction with Riverbed

A Riverbed Case Study

Preview of the DC Leisure Case Study

Riverbed Technology enables leisure company to avoid expensive bandwidth upgrade

DC Leisure Management (DCL) operates 85 leisure sites in the UK with around 6,500 employees. Their ADSL-based WAN linking sites to HQ and a datacenter was strained by a program to centralize browser-based applications, Exchange and centralized backups, causing dropped connections and poor performance. Upgrading to leased lines was prohibitively expensive, so DCL needed a cost-effective, low-disruption way to boost bandwidth and stabilize the network.

DCL deployed 71 Riverbed Steelhead appliances, Riverbed Steelhead Mobile and the Riverbed Central Management Console, which cut data transfer by up to 92% for key apps (58% for Outlook), reduced backup data by 54 and shortened backup windows from over four hours to under two. File transfers fell from four minutes to 10 seconds, quality of service improved with no more dropped connections, leased-line costs were avoided (saving hundreds of thousands of pounds), ROI came in under 12 months, and the company could centralize more services and enable secure mobile access.
