Case Study: Pennsylvania Attorney General achieves 80% shorter backup windows with Riverbed SteelHead

A Riverbed Case Study

Preview of the Pennsylvania Attorney General Case Study

Riverbed® Steelhead® products replace Cisco WAAS at a state Attorney General’s office

The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, a 1,000‑employee government legal agency with 22 statewide offices and 250 attorneys, needed fast, secure access to large volumes of case data centralized in a data center and replicated to a disaster‑recovery site for e‑discovery compliance. End users experienced slow HTTP application performance (LexisNexis, Agile, SharePoint) and backups to the DR site were slow and disruptive; existing Cisco WAAS appliances did not accelerate web traffic effectively and upgrades were cost‑prohibitive.

Riverbed Steelhead appliances and the Riverbed Central Management Console (CMC) were deployed at all 22 remote sites to optimize CIFS, MAPI and HTTP traffic and provide centralized management and visibility. Backup windows were shortened by 80%, effective bandwidth capacity increased 4.8× with 79% data reduction, web applications became responsive, and backups no longer interfered with business hours.
