A Riverbed Case Study
Intelsat, the world’s leading fixed satellite services provider, needed to maintain fast, reliable access to central applications as it integrated PanAmSat and expanded its global footprint. With offices in 200+ countries and many sales reps working over high-latency, low-bandwidth links, the company faced the twin challenges of delivering LAN-like performance for mission‑critical tools and consolidating remote IT infrastructure without degrading customer responsiveness or incurring major bandwidth upgrades.
Intelsat deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances at 20 sites (with in‑path and WCCP deployments and HA at five locations) and used centralized management to simplify operations. The result was LAN-like performance for sales and support tools, consolidation of about nine remote file and email servers, measurable bandwidth savings, avoided widespread bandwidth upgrades, and faster customer response that improved sales productivity and reduced IT capex and opex.
