A Riverbed Case Study
NAVTEQ, a global provider of digital map data, centrally managed networks, desktops and servers for 75 EMEA offices from its Veldhoven headquarters. Rapid expansion and acquisitions strained the WAN—centralized Exchange and frequent remote file access caused high latency and congestion, making applications and document access extremely slow for branch users.
NAVTEQ deployed Riverbed SteelHead appliances across branch offices, phased out many local servers and centralized backup and management. The plug-and-play appliances delivered LAN-like performance (document open times fell from 10–15 minutes to 10–15 seconds), sped email access, and cut bandwidth use by 84% (data reduced from 2.2 TB to 365 GB), lowering management and infrastructure costs.
