A Riverbed Case Study
d’Amico Group, a global shipping company with offices worldwide, centralized its IT services in a single data center, moving Citrix, Lotus Notes and Windows DFS workloads off local branch servers. Branch users—especially in Singapore and Vancouver—saw severe slowdowns over 2 Mbps WAN links as network and application latency degraded file and application access, and increasing bandwidth alone would not fix the problem.
After testing WAN optimization solutions, d’Amico deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances in eight branch offices and Steelhead Mobile for remote users. The rollout delivered LAN‑like access to centralized files and apps, a fivefold reduction in bandwidth use, removal of 20 branch email servers, implementation of disaster recovery, and the ability to add VoIP and video conferencing—improving collaboration, productivity and lowering operating costs.
