Silver Atena is an international engineering firm (500+ staff) that builds safety‑critical systems for aerospace, automotive and rail markets. Its IT team in Munich set out to implement a private‑cloud strategy by consolidating branch servers to a central data center, but faced inefficient, manual backups at remote sites, bandwidth/latency problems that impeded developer access to the central CVS repository, and the risk of productivity loss if local staff were unavailable for IT tasks.

Silver Atena deployed Riverbed SteelHead appliances with the Riverbed Services Platform (RSP) and Central Management Console to deliver a “branch office box” virtualized approach. The rollout removed eight branch servers (DNS/DHCP, file and print), centralized backups and revision control, cut bandwidth use by 4.5x, reduced management and licensing costs, and improved developer productivity—enabling the company to realize its private‑cloud and largely serverless branch office goals.
