Riverbed SteelFusion Transforms Remote Site IT Infrastructure at One-Third the Cost of Traditional Site-In-A-Box Solution

Bill Barrett Corporation, an oil and gas exploration and development firm with remote sites across the Rocky Mountains, faced aging, failing servers, inconsistent backups that caused data loss, and no onsite IT expertise. Proposed half-rack “site-in-a-box” refreshes plus needed bandwidth upgrades were costly and would still require local management.

The company deployed Riverbed SteelFusion (SteelHead EX at branches with a SteelFusion Core in the colo) to virtualize and centralize storage while providing WAN optimization and QoS. The solution cut remote-site hardware and refresh costs to about one-third of the original proposal, avoided bandwidth upgrades, eliminated the need for third-party site support, resolved backup/DR issues, and improved remote user performance and VoIP quality.
