A Riverbed Case Study
Tecan, a Swiss provider of laboratory instrumentation and automation with roughly $400M in revenue and 1,300 employees, struggled with a fragmented global IT estate after rapid growth: multiple server rooms, different vendors and inconsistent local backup and restore processes made global support, data protection and recovery slow and hard to standardize. The company sought a centrally managed, flexible and scalable infrastructure that would simplify remote IT management and enable instant recovery.
Tecan implemented Riverbed SteelFusion—deploying SteelFusion Edge at branch sites and SteelFusion Core in its Zurich data center and a Lupfig backup site—to centralize servers and storage while maintaining local performance. This consolidation delivered standardized backups and disaster recovery, single-pane management, faster branch provisioning, improved data security and greater operational agility and scalability.
