A Riverbed Case Study
G&T Conveyor, the largest privately held turnkey baggage-handling manufacturer in the U.S., operates distributed design and installation teams across hundreds of airports. Facing hurricane risk at its Orlando HQ and constrained by T1 WAN links, the company struggled with business continuity, slow transfers of large CAD and project files, version-control problems, and the cost and complexity of deploying Exchange and file servers at edge sites.
G&T deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances in its data centers, disaster-recovery site and remote locations to accelerate WAN traffic and centralize applications. The result: 20–30 MB project downloads dropped from minutes to seconds, a half‑terabyte DR replication that used to stall for days now completes in a day, centralized LAN‑like file and email access, elimination of version-control headaches, data-center consolidation and dramatic bandwidth savings (about 84% data reduction).
