A Riverbed Case Study
AccuData Integrated Marketing, a database-marketing firm serving thousands of clients across multiple industries, was consolidating servers into a central datacenter but struggling with slow application performance for remote offices, congested WAN links, long disaster-recovery replication windows and rising distributed IT costs. High latency, “chatty” protocols and the need for local services in branches prevented full centralization and slowed employee productivity.
AccuData deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances and the Riverbed Services Platform (RSP) in its two datacenters and three branches, virtualizing local AD/DNS/print services on the appliances and optimizing WAN traffic. The result: backup windows fell from ~12 hours to under an hour, Microsoft Office file transfers became about 5x faster (100MB Excel transfers went from 200s to 10s after caching), over 100 branch servers were consolidated, and annual savings exceeded $160,000 with a four-month payback.
