Case Study: Coty achieves rapid global multimedia downloads and lower network costs with Riverbed SteelHead WAN acceleration

A Riverbed Case Study

Preview of the Coty Case Study

Perfume maker sees better network speeds with WAN optimization

Coty Inc., the global perfume maker, faced slow Internet download speeds for about 6,000 users worldwide as multimedia content and presentations grew. Adding bandwidth was prohibitively expensive in some regions, and high link utilization was impacting user productivity and access to up‑to‑date files.

Working with Orange Communications and Riverbed Technology, Coty deployed roughly 50 Riverbed SteelHead appliances (one central unit at its data center) at a cost of about $500,000. Downloads that once took 30 minutes dropped to under five, link utilization fell from about 90% to 60%, and Coty removed around 12 caching servers—saving on licensing—achieving an expected payback in 18 months; only a few legacy applications were excluded from acceleration.
