SABMiller India, the country arm of one of the world’s largest brewers with operations across more than 30 locations, faced worsening WAN latency and bandwidth constraints after IT consolidation. Remote sites and mobile workers experienced slow email and application performance, delayed Active Directory replication, and unreliable sessions—compounded by multiple WAN operators and limited capacity that made bandwidth upgrades costly.
The IT team deployed Riverbed SteelHead appliances and SteelHead Mobile between the Bangalore data center and 13 remote sites, delivering LAN‑like performance across the WAN. Results were immediate: file transfers became 10–50× faster, email 10× faster, web apps 15× faster, and overall responsiveness improved roughly 30%, significantly boosting mobile-user productivity and allowing the company to postpone or reduce bandwidth investments.
