A Riverbed Case Study
Minneapolis-based Landform Professional Services is a multi-disciplinary site design firm (civil engineering, landscape architecture, planning, urban design, and land surveying) that needed to ensure business continuity and preserve existing workflows while enabling staff to open and collaborate on very large CAD files from home. Large AutoCAD Civil 3D surface files that opened in about a minute in the office could take ~20 minutes or more over home internet, costing engineers up to 2 hours a day and threatening project timelines.
Landform implemented Riverbed Client Accelerator (client agents on laptops/desktops with a SteelHead CX in the data center), deployed via a fast proof-of-concept from partner CSG, to send only file changes across the network. The result: file opens dropped from 20 minutes to about 90 seconds (92% faster), employees saved 2–3 hours daily, the solution paid for itself in under a month, enabled LAN-like real-time collaboration from home, and helped the firm avoid furloughs and win new business.
