K-12 Schools Build Fast Reliable Foundation for BYOD and Google for Education with Xirrus Wi-Fi

Skaggs Catholic Center is a 57‑acre K–12 campus in Draper, Utah, serving about 2,000 students across a high school, middle and elementary school. Preparing for BYOD and adoption of Google for Education, the IT team needed a fast, reliable Wi‑Fi network that could handle roughly 4,000 devices, provide consistent classroom and large‑space coverage, and reduce hardware and management overhead.

They deployed Xirrus multi‑radio access points and XMS Cloud, programming radios to 5 GHz to support high‑density connections and covering multiple classrooms from hallway APs. The school cut access points, cabling, and switch ports (the 1,350‑seat auditorium uses just seven APs; the 400‑seat cafeteria two), eliminated an on‑premises controller, and simplified management and guest access. The result: seamless Google Apps use, enabled blended courses with teachers confidently running online quizzes, ~99% on‑time course completion, predictable scaling as bandwidth grows, and a two‑person IT team that spends far less time managing the network.
