WestLB, a top‑ten commercial bank with about $370 billion in assets and offices in more than 35 countries, faced chronic end‑to‑end WAN performance problems. Existing tools gave little root‑cause information, so regional teams spent excessive time correlating reports, missed transient events, and made reactive capacity decisions based on the loudest complaints.

WestLB deployed five Riverbed AppResponse Xpert appliances (Dusseldorf, Tokyo, Singapore, New York, London) and an AppResponse Xpert Director at headquarters to correlate global data while letting regions troubleshoot locally. The rollout delivered immediate visibility into whether issues were application, network, server, or client related, stored event data for after‑the‑fact analysis, eliminated finger‑pointing, improved capacity planning and SLA enforcement, and sped incident and security investigations.
