Houston County Board of Education Enhances Learning through Wireless Technologies with Brigham Young University-Idaho Campus

Riverbed Xirrus helped two large educational organizations solve pervasive wireless problems that were hindering teaching and learning. At Brigham Young University–Idaho, a patchwork of hotspots left students and faculty confused and under‑served across a 40‑building campus and residence halls. In Houston County, GA, the district needed a high‑performance, secure and easily managed Wi‑Fi platform to support a one‑device‑per‑student BYOD initiative, cloud‑based learning tools and 38 campuses serving 28,000 students.

Xirrus delivered large‑scale Array deployments, management and security integrations to meet both needs. BYU‑Idaho deployed nearly 700 Xirrus arrays (expanding toward 800) to provide 100% indoor coverage and capacity for about 6,500 simultaneous devices, dramatically reducing complaints and enabling modern classroom tools. Houston County installed 721 Xirrus Arrays (2,550 radios, equivalent to 1,225 traditional APs) plus XMS and AirWatch, cutting hardware and cabling, supporting 30+ high‑bandwidth devices per classroom, tightening security, lowering TCO and future‑proofing the network for growth.
