Golder Associates Implements Riverbed Products Accelerates SharePoint

Golder Associates, a global engineering and environmental consulting firm with about 7,800 employees in 160 offices, centralizes project collaboration on Microsoft SharePoint. While WAN optimization appliances (Riverbed Steelhead) sped large file transfers, users in high-latency, low-bandwidth regions experienced very slow SharePoint page loads—sometimes nearly a minute—so IT set a goal of seven seconds or less per page.

Golder added Riverbed Stingray Aptimizer (web content optimization) to complement the Steelhead deployment. The half-day install dramatically cut page times—e.g., a Johannesburg page dropped from 55s to 15s on first view and to just seconds thereafter, and a European page fell from 5s to 1.2s—yielding up to 3–4x improvements, higher intranet adoption, avoided content-mirroring costs, easier development, and groundwork for mobile access.
