Energy Company Removes Local Servers and Centralises IT Systems Without Affecting Employee Productivity

Kamstrup A/S is a Danish technology company that makes energy metering systems and employs around 700 people across 15 offices. The company wanted to centralise IT and backup systems from those branch offices to a single data centre at headquarters to cut costs and simplify management, but needed to avoid degraded performance for core apps such as SharePoint, Dynamics and Exchange.

Kamstrup deployed 17 Riverbed Steelhead appliances and a central management console, a straightforward “plug-and-play” WAN optimisation solution. As a result it has centralised servers and backups, removed five local servers so far (with more planned), improved file/application access by about 50–70% (avg. ~60%), achieved a 7x reduction in bandwidth use, eliminated local backup management and cut IT costs while maintaining employee productivity.
