A Riverbed Case Study
Banif Investment Bank, a European financial services firm with primary and DR data centers in Lisbon and Oporto linked by a 10 Mbps WAN, was struggling as transaction volumes and applications grew: daily data replication was taking nearly 48 hours and the bank needed much tighter recovery point (RPO) and recovery time (RTO) objectives to minimize downtime.
After a 45‑day proof of concept, Banif deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances between sites. Replication time fell to about seven hours, RPO and RTO improved to roughly four hours, WAN traffic dropped by 84%, effective bandwidth capacity increased 6.5×, and the bank avoided an expensive bandwidth upgrade while improving resiliency and remote access.
