BakerRisk - Customer Case Study

Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants (BakerRisk) is an international engineering and risk-management firm of 170 staff that creates large, detailed 3D models and simulations for oil, gas, chemical and related industries. The company faced rapidly growing data—about 200 TB with individual files up to 100 GB—and struggled to centralize applications and data without crippling performance, remove sensitive data from remote offices, and speed replication to a disaster‑recovery site.

BakerRisk deployed Riverbed SteelHead (including Mobile), SteelFusion and SteelCentral to optimize WAN performance and consolidate remote infrastructure while keeping data in the data center. The result: 100‑GB files now transfer in roughly an hour (vs. 8–10 hours), centralized apps perform as if local, replication traffic dropped ~65%, sensitive data is secured centrally, remote sites were simplified, and the company saved about $20K–$40K per office.
