A Riverbed Case Study
Alamos Gold, a mining company with operations in Mexico and Turkey, was struggling to transfer terabytes of geology and CAD data between remote sites and its Toronto headquarters. Extremely limited, latent and unreliable WAN links forced staff to mail hard drives, delaying collaboration by days, jeopardizing disaster recovery, and creating costly challenges for deploying and supporting local IT in hard-to-reach locations.
Alamos deployed Riverbed Steelhead EX appliances with Granite Core/Edge (VSP and WAN acceleration) to centralize servers in Toronto while caching and serving data locally. The solution eliminated on-site servers, provided deduplication and LAN-like access to centralized apps, delivered mine data to HQ within hours, simplified local IT, established a concrete DR plan and paid back in about eight months—creating a repeatable IT architecture for future sites.
