Case Study: Zurich Airport resolves network issues in minutes with Riverbed Cascade Pilot

A Riverbed Case Study

Preview of the Zurich Airport Case Study

Airport operator resolves network issues quickly and efficiently with Riverbed

Flughafen Zürich AG, the operator of Zurich Airport, manages a large, complex LAN that connects around 270 partners, roughly 150 national and international networks and more than 14,000 access ports to support airlines, retailers and other tenants serving over 22 million passengers annually. When application or server problems arose it was difficult and time-consuming to find the root cause—troubleshooting relied on multiple engineers, manual Wireshark captures and often took hours to determine whether faults originated on the airport LAN or a customer network.

After a successful proof-of-concept, the airport deployed Riverbed Cascade Shark appliances and Cascade Pilot software, which integrates with Wireshark to give real-time and historical packet-level visibility. The solution lets a single engineer trace and resolve issues in minutes, speeds network configuration, enables proactive detection of roaming and DNS/interface problems, and has improved operational efficiency and customer service.
