Excellus BCBS, a regional healthcare insurance provider, needed to replace a cumbersome spreadsheet process and meet strict ORSA regulatory requirements by combining quantitative and qualitative risk assessments across many distributed business units. The organization required a flexible, bottom-up approach that could aggregate risk data from each unit into a single enterprise view. To address this, Excellus BCBS selected Riskonnect and its GRC cloud solution to support enterprise-wide risk management.

Riskonnect implemented a methodology and aggregation algorithm that lets units assess risks locally while rolling those assessments up into board-level views, with drill-down graphics, real-time data and mobile access. Using Riskonnect GRC, Excellus BCBS passed its initial ORSA review quickly, has expanded the program based on regulator feedback, and now manages risks at the appropriate organizational level rather than relying on spreadsheets.
