Verizon used RiskLens to examine a growing mobile phishing threat highlighted in the Verizon DBIR. The challenge was understanding how increasing smartphone use and distracted behavior could raise the risk of employees clicking sophisticated phishing emails that may contain sensitive information.
Using RiskLens’s FAIR-based risk analysis platform, Verizon modeled phishing click rates, email exposure, and potential loss scenarios to quantify the risk. The analysis estimated a most likely annualized loss exposure of $359K, with per-event losses of about $2,000 in primary loss and $357K in secondary loss, showing that while the event may be infrequent, the financial impact could be significant.
