Case Study: Ring achieves $4M+ in savings by stopping returns abuse with Riskified

A Riskified Case Study

Preview of the Ring Case Study

How Ring was able to decline more than $4 million in abusive returns in just seven months

Ring, the Amazon-owned smart-home security company, was losing inventory and money to organized returns abuse—fraudsters bought high-value devices in bulk, returned empty boxes, and resold the items. To protect its generous return policies without alienating legitimate customers, Ring partnered with Riskified in 2023 and implemented Riskified’s Policy Protect automation alongside Identity Explore technology.

Riskified used its data intelligence to link thousands of cookies, emails, and phone numbers to a small group of fraudsters, identifying about 600 abusers and enabling Ring to decline abusive orders at checkout. In seven months Ring blocked $4M+ in abusive returns, improved revenue retention, and validated Riskified’s decisioning accuracy before scaling more aggressive declines.
