Case Study: ReiseBank achieves instant, low-cost cross-border cash settlements with Ripple

A Ripple Case Study

Preview of the ReiseBank Case Study

ReiseBank integrates Ripple to make payments faster and cost-effective

ReiseBank, a DZ BANK subsidiary with more than 100 branches serving two million travelers, faced the challenge of making cross-border cash withdrawals faster, cheaper and more convenient for partner-bank customers using its ATMs. To drive adoption and increase ATM usage, ReiseBank chose Ripple’s distributed financial technology and global payments network to pilot real‑time, low‑cost currency exchange services.

Working with Ripple (and systems integrator Accenture), ReiseBank completed a pilot in four months—delivering an initial prototype in three weeks—and executed the world’s first live Ripple demo on June 16, 2016: a $1,000 CAD-to-euros transfer that settled in eight seconds versus the typical 2–6 business days. The success accelerated plans for production deployment and global expansion, proving Ripple can deliver dramatically faster settlement and faster time‑to‑market.
