Denver Parks & Recreation revitalizes 3-block Skyline Park with RIOS

Denver Parks & Recreation (DPR) faced the challenge of revitalizing the fragmented and inaccessible historic Skyline Park, which had lost its original continuity and limited its use as a downtown civic space. They partnered with the design firm RIOS to reimagine the park as an inclusive, year-round destination through a comprehensive landscape architecture, architecture, and experience design service.

RIOS led an extensive community engagement process and designed a solution focused on fabric and flow, weaving together new amenities with the park's legacy. The implemented design for Block 2 introduced a flexible, barrier-free layout with a café, a central plaza that converts to an ice rink and splash pad, a stage, and a Colorado-inspired garden. This created a vibrant, accessible hub for daily use and large events, successfully re-establishing Skyline Park as Denver's energetic civic front yard.
