Automobile Manufacturer estimates $13 million in cargo damage with Rimkus

The automobile manufacturer faced a significant challenge when a car carrier vessel transporting its new vehicles developed a severe 60-degree list, potentially damaging over 4,800 automobiles valued at $117 million. Rimkus was retained by the ship owner to evaluate the extent of the damage to the cargo.

Rimkus engineers inspected the automobiles, performed destructive examinations, and prepared testing plans and a damage estimate. Rimkus estimated the restoration cost at approximately $13 million. Following the Rimkus report of findings, the manufacturer made the decision to scrap all the vehicles.
