Increasing Patient Safety, Eliminating Duplicates, and Preventing Fraud and Id Theft at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital

Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, a 200-bed hospital in Elkin, NC, needed a flexible and affordable way to improve patient identification, reduce duplicate medical records and overlays, and prevent fraud and ID theft. The hospital wanted a solution that was easy for staff to use, integrated with its CPSI EHR, required minimal IT resources, and could support a clean MPI across a broader HIE or IDN.

RightPatient provided an iris biometric patient identification solution that replaced the hospital’s previous palm vein system. The implementation was fast, going live in less than one week with less than a day of training, and it improved hygiene, usability, and staff acceptance while helping prevent duplicate and overlay records at enrollment. RightPatient also added photo-based multi-factor authentication and mobile support for Windows tablets, with certified iris data enabling clean data sharing across HIEs and IDNs.
