Increasing Patient Safety, Eliminating Duplicates, and Preventing Fraud and Id Theft at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center

Dorminy Medical Center, a 75-bed acute care hospital in Fitzgerald, GA, needed a safer and more affordable patient identification approach to reduce duplicate medical records, overlays, and fraud. In a community where many residents shared similar names and birthdates, the hospital wanted a solution that would integrate with its Meditech EHR, require minimal IT effort, work quickly, and avoid patient contact; it also needed support for identifying unconscious or disoriented patients. RightPatient provided an iris biometrics-based patient identification solution for these needs.

RightPatient implemented its biometric patient identification platform in Dorminy Medical Center’s Emergency Room and Outpatient Admissions departments, using iris biometrics plus facial recognition for mobile identification. The results included a cleaner master patient index, fewer duplicate records and overlays, improved patient safety, and stronger protection against identity theft and fraud. The system went live in less than one week, required less than a day of staff training, reduced registration time by about 2 minutes per patient, and was well accepted by both staff and patients.
