VIA Metropolitan Transit faced a challenge providing efficient transportation in the low-density suburban areas of Northeast San Antonio. Their three existing fixed-route buses had a small catchment area and high headways, limiting resident access to major transit hubs. To address this, VIA partnered with vendor RideCo to implement an on-demand microtransit service.

RideCo provided its on-demand transit technology to power the new VIA Link service. The solution replaced the underperforming bus routes and successfully connected residents to transit hubs for local trips and commutes. As a result, VIA Link achieved a 36% reduction in cost per passenger, an average of 5.0 passengers per weekday, and a 70% average shared ride rate, making it one of the fastest-growing microtransit services in the United States.
