Town of Cobourg reaches 97% on-time performance with RideCo

The Town of Cobourg was facing operational inefficiencies with its outdated paratransit program and a fixed-route bus system that provided limited coverage. To improve its municipal transit services and better meet residents' needs, the town developed a pilot project and contracted the vendor RideCo as its technology partner for an on-demand transit solution.

RideCo implemented a commingled service that combined WHEELS paratransit with conventional on-demand transit to provide town-wide coverage. The solution increased service frequency from 60 to 26 minutes and achieved significant results, including 4.8 average passengers per vehicle hour, 71% average shared rides, and 97% average on-time performance. Through its partnership with RideCo, the Town of Cobourg's innovation was recognized by the Canadian Urban Transit Association with a 2022 award in the Innovation Category.
